The Two-Sided Polygon Challenge

on December 17, 2008

Emma\'s Solution

In class, we are learning about polygons and their mathematical names. The students were very motivated to prove that a 2-sided polygon was possible. Emma came up with a wonderful idea. She used a mirror to reflect the two sides and create a closed polygon shape. Although this is actually now a 4-sided polygon, her idea was excellent!! I wanted to share her excellent “out of the box” thinking. Great job Emma!!!

Hello my name is kristen I’m a 7th grader and I would like 2 know if a 2 sided polygon is real. Google is no longer useful 2 me

A 2-sided polygon is not possible. We used mirrors to make one appear. However, a polygon must have 3 sides in order to be a closed figure. 🙂
