On Friday, I held my annual “Colonial Tax Day” in our classroom!
I am hopeful that your children came home talking all about it! However, if they didn’t here are some of the details.
In class we are learning all about the “Road to the Revolution” and what the British colonists went through that ultimately ended in us separating from Britain and starting our own country…the United States of America! We have learned and discussed the big issue the colonists had with being taxed without having the right to have a representative in Parliament.
To help them experience the colonial frustrations of the time, I became King George and the students had to pay taxes for various things on Friday. Be sure to ask them all about the fun and educational day!
