Mrs. Spata’s Fourth Grade Blog

A window into our classroom!

Accelerated Reader has been discontinued

As per the letter that you received from Dr. Leeds, Tackan will no longer be participating in the Accelerated Reader program.

I am in the process, as is the school librarian, of finding something motivational to replace this program.

My students are still required to read at least one chapter book a month. They will now write me a Book Review letter to fulfill their responsibility.

School begins at 9:05 –Lateness effects your child’s day. Please arrive on time. We strongly recommend that students take the bus.

Thank you for all of the generous donations of food and gifts for the holidays. It is a testament to the wonderful families in the Tackan community.

Parents As Reading Partners

January is Parents As Reading Partners month at Tackan Elementary School!!! Our theme this year is “Get Caught Reading!”

Beginning this week, your child is being asked to read at least one non-fiction article each week and to fill out a PARP Reading Activity for that article. PARP is three weeks long, so your child is being asked to complete three of these activities. They are to be handed in on Mondays starting next week. (There is no school on Monday, January 21st so Tuesday is fine.)

I will be sending home additional Time For Kids  each week that you can use or you may use any other articles from newspapers, magazines, or online.

There will be weekly incentive activities of various themes held throughout the program. Also, the classroom with the most participation greater than 85% will become eligible for a special surprise! Everyone who participates will be awarded a certificate of achievement for completing the program!
