Mrs. Spata’s Fourth Grade Blog

A window into our classroom!

I have posted the study guides for our first two tests of the year. Be sure to click the “Study Guides” link at the top of the page to see them.

We have spoken in class at great length about the importance of studying for our unit test throughout a unit, not just at the end to cram for a test. Studying a little bit each day (or every other day, or each weekend), will help to put the information into your child’s long term memory. The state tests at the end of the year will encompase all of the topics that we learn this year.

Please help set up an effective routine to be proactive about their assessments this year. I will post the study guides as close to the beginning of a unit as possible to help support your studying.

(I will be printing out a paper copy for all of the students this time and handing them out tomorrow. However, I would prefer to save paper if possible. I will be happy to print any for you in the future if you would like, just let me know. Otherwise, I will just post them on here for you to see at home.)

First week in reveiw

It was so great to meet all of you last night!! This is going to be such a wonderful year for your children. They will be challenged but fully supported both by you at home and by me in school. I look forward to how much they will grow as learners this year!

Our first week of fourth grade went very well. We are working on finding our balance between socialization and hard work. Next week I would like to hear less talking and see straighter lines in the hallways! 🙂

Today I sent home the date for the week that your child is scheduled to be our “Melting Pot” star!

I will send out monthly reminders to help you to be prepared for your presentation. However, I wanted to give the project out now so that you can work on it at your convenience. Remember that you and your family can choose to share the information in any mannor that you would like. (Posters, pictures, story, PowerPoint show, artifacts, etc) You may also choose to share everything at once or to break it up into two days. Sometimes splitting mom and dad’s sides work well too.

Have a wonderful weekend!!! I’ll see you all on Monday!!

Meet the Teacher Night

I am looking forward to meeting all of the parents of my new students at our Meet the Teacher Night. It is tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7PM.

It will begin in the gymnasium with Dr. Leeds. There have been many changes this year, so I recommend that you make every effort to attend this part of the evening! You are invited back to our classroom at 7:30. Please DO NOT come down to the room before Dr. Leeds is finished with her presentation.

Thank you and I can’t wait to meet you and for you to get to know me!
