Field Day Fun

I just wanted to say that I had a blast at field day!

I am so proud of the sportsmanship and camaraderie we showed as a class today! You all did a wonderful job having fun and cheering each other on!

It also didn’t hurt that we happened to win a bunch of events too! 😉

See you all tomorrow for the DBQ assessment.

Tackan’s Field Day is this Thursday, May 31st at Great Hollow Middle School.

Your child will take their regular bus to school. We will then transport the students to GHMS.

Fourth Grade will be wearing yellow shirts.

Helpful hints to prepare for this fun day!

  • No backpacks should be brought to school!
  • Apply sunscreen at home!
  • Wear sneakers and appropriate clothing (hats) as we will be in the sun all morning!
  • Bring a water bottle and a paper bag lunch (NO GLASS please)!
  • Please label everything with your child’s name.

All spectators are asked to bring lawn chairs and to sit in the designated viewing areas.

See you there!

Fire Prevention

Today the Nesconset Fire Department came to Tackan for our annual Fire Prevention Day!!!

The kids circulated through many group presentations, as well as having the 0pportunity to experience the “smoke house” and spray a fire hose.

This is a perfect time to speak with your family about what to do in case of an emergency in your own home. We have fire drills in school, but how many home fire drills have you had with your family?

It is a life saving activity that will help keep your family knowledgeable about what to do. Practice several different scenarios such as: if your in your bedroom asleep, the living room, the playroom, even the bathroom. Have two ways out of every room and discuss where you should all meet up.

Science ESPET

Tomorrow is our Science ESPT (hands-on) State Assessment.

Please remind your children to READ ALL DIRECTIONS and LABEL ALL NUMBERS!

They will participate in three station rotations. One will be Electricity and Magnetism, one will be Force and Motion (Ball and ramp), and the final will be Measurement and Matter.

They must know the difference between mass and volume, measurement of length and diameter,  magnetism, conductors vs insulators
as well as any other topic we have discussed in class. We have practiced similar labs in class so the students should be able to apply those experience into these new labs.

Get a good nights sleep and eat a great breakfast!

***Important Change***

Unfortunately, due to the impending weather and threat of scattered thunderstorms, we are

 RESCHEDULING tomorrow’s field trip.

The new date is WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6th!

Tomorrow will be a normal day of school. No bag lunches are required. Please sign the NEW permission slip for the new date of June 6th and return it to school.

I am very sorry that we had to make this decision, but a majority of the trip is outdoors. It will be VERY muddy and not as enjoyable if we are being rained on or worrying every moment about thunder and lightning.

Fourth Grade Field Trip

Click here to get a sneak peak at some of the places and things we will see during our field trip next week.

Wednesday, May 16th, we are participating in a Three Village Historical Society program called “A Walk through History with Revolutionary War Spy Abraham Woodhull”.

We will be leaving between 9:45-10:00 AM, just after the children arrive at school, and be gone for a majority of the school day. We should be returning back to Tackan around 1:45-2:00PM.

The entire trip will be outside! Please be sure that your child is prepared for any kind of weather. You may want to layer a short sleeve shirt under a warm shirt under a light jacket.

Please apply sunscreen on your child before he/she comes to school.

Things to bring on the trip…

  • Brown bag lunch (We will be having a picnic lunch on the Village Green. Please keep everything disposable– no glass permitted)
  • Plastic water bottle (label with your name)
  • Comfortable sneakers or boots  (We will be doing a lot of walking in forests and near water.)
  • Hat and/or sunglasses
