Mrs. Spata’s Fourth Grade Blog

A window into our classroom!

New additions

Be sure to check out the study guide page. A few days ago, I added the study guide for our new science unit. Remember to try very hard to study a little bit at a time as we go through the unit. The test date is “to be announced” but it will not be far away.

Also, check the calendar of events page to see up-coming events. Including our classroom schedule for the new “Melting Pot” projects.

Have a great weekend! :O)

FYI

I dont usually do this…but I feel that this is a very worthy cause!

Chili’s will be donating 100% of their profits today to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital to help fund research to help children who suffer from illnesses such as cancer.

This could be a great opportunity to speak to your children about “giving back” and helping others in need.

Have a great day!  :O) Mrs. Spata

Fourth Grade Melting Pot Project

The Fourth Grade Melting Pot project

Each student will be assigned a week to present their “melting pot” information. You will receive paperwork at least two weeks prior to your assigned week. This way you will have plenty of time to prepare your presentation. Please include as much information from the organizer as possible when teaching us about your family history.

Feel free to get as creative as you would like with your poster(s), powerpoint show, etc.

I am so excited to learn about each of you and give you an opportunity to shine while you share your family background with us! :O)

Meet the Teacher Night

Please begin your evening in the gymnasium with Dr. Leeds for a short presentation at 7:00 PM.

You are then invited into the cafeteria for a grade-level presentation by the fourth grade teachers.

Following that you will be welcome to visit your child’s classroom to meet your teacher 1:1, meet your class parents, and look around the room at what they have been working on in class. Don’t forget to grab a “heart donation” and to write your child a letter telling them how proud you are!

See you tonight.

Last Year’s ELA and Math scores

I have been recieving many notes asking why you have not recieved last year’s test scores and when you will be recieving them.

Here is what I know… New York State decided to rescore all of the tests and changed thier expectations for recieving each grade. It actually became harder to earn a 4. It was all over the news this summer so you may have heard about this already.

We are just starting to recieve the information now, so I would guess that you will recieve your letter/scores in the mail by the end of the month.

I hope that this information helps you through this frustrating time for all of us.

First Day of Fourth Grade

I am so proud of my new class right now! They had such a wonderful first day! It was a bit rushed due to our delayed opening and we had an afternoon music lesson…but they worked very hard organizing their supplies and participating in our class discussions!
Tomorrow we will complete our first project! I can’t wait!
:O)
