Revoluitionary War Student Choice Project :)

This assignment is due May 20th. You have lots of time to make it really special! Have fun with this!!

It will be scored in five areas (organization, quality of information, amount of information, mechanics, diagrams and illustrations). I have sent home a copy of the rubric that I will use to score each project. Your goal should be to get a 4 in each area.

Below are a list of some battles and events that you might want to research for your projects.  It would be a lot more interesting to do your research about topics we have not covered extensively in class.

1.  Battle of Long Island (Brooklyn Heights)

2.  Culper Spy Ring

3.  Battle at Trenton and Princeton

4.  Battle of Saratoga

5.  Valley Forge

6.  Paul Revere’s Ride

7.  Battle of Lexington and Concord

8.  Thomas Jefferson

New York State Science Exam

Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your time off. The weather could have been better… but it was a great week anyway. 🙂

The Fourth Grade NY State Science Exam will take place next week. There will be a written test on Tuesday morning and a hands-on practical test on Wednesday morning.

It will cover all of the science topics that your child has learned from Kindergarten through this year. The past 3 weeks for homework, I have assigned science packets that review some of the topics that the exam will cover. I spoke to the class about using the packets to see what they remember and what they should be studying.

We have access to Study Island which has wonderful science questions on all of the topics. We have been using it in class and the students have been told to do some from home as much as possible. It has been in our links box since the blog began, but I wanted to remind everyone of it here.

Student user names follow this format…  S.Spata@TEL   Passwords are the same a Pearson (The math site we have been using)

Multiplication Facts

After the vacation is over, we will begin working on long division. Please practice your multiplication facts!!! I want you to be able to focus on the “new” math. You should be able to do the multiplication fairly easily.

I can’t force you to practice, but it is VERY important to memorize your facts!!!!

Here is a great website filled with fun ways to practice your multiplication facts over the vacation.

Tax Day at Tackan

Today Mrs. Spata’s class had a “Tax Day”.

We pretended that we were Colonists from Colonial America and that we were being taxed by King George III. Mrs. Spata was the king!!!

We learned very quickly how difficult the taxes made life for the colonists and how they might have felt being forced to pay additional taxes for things like sugar (Sugar Act/Revenue Act) and paper (Stamp Act).

****more pictures to follow -I have to upload them from home.***
