I want to take a moment to wish my students and their families a very happy and healthy holiday season!

I can not believe that the year has passed so quickly!!

This is a new countdown timer that I found. I will be using it to count down to various events in the coming year.

The Two-Sided Polygon Challenge

Emma\'s Solution

In class, we are learning about polygons and their mathematical names. The students were very motivated to prove that a 2-sided polygon was possible. Emma came up with a wonderful idea. She used a mirror to reflect the two sides and create a closed polygon shape. Although this is actually now a 4-sided polygon, her idea was excellent!! I wanted to share her excellent “out of the box” thinking. Great job Emma!!!

This note is to my students…

Your comments on this blog are being viewed by the world!!! It is very important that you are “putting your best foot forward”.

As in class, complete sentences with correct capitalization, punctuation, and grammar are expected. This is not like texting -no shortcuts.

This is your chance to show the world how smart fourth graders really are!!!

Science Day #2

Friday, December 19th will be our second Science Day. The entire day will be dedicated to science labs, lessons, and activities. Fourth grade will be continuing our study of the Life Sciences. We will be covering photosynthesis, food webs, and habitats.

Each student is being asked to bring in two 2-liter soda bottles. Please clean them out, peel off the label, and cut off the tops. Be sure to put your initials on the bottoms of both of them.

As before, you are invited to “dress like a scientist” if you would like.

I’m looking forward to this day!!! I hope that you are too. :o)
